I love The Struts. Saw them live at a small venue earlier this month. One of the best shows I''ve ever seen. They played a lot of the music on this new album and it was well received and sounded great. I liked the first album a lot but was not optimistic about a second album worrying that these guys might be a one trick pony.

Well, my pessimism was misplaced. I like just about every song on this album. As mentioned all the ones they played live were fantastic and kept the audience engaged.

Some of the content on this album is more serious and more thoughtful and I think that is great. The power ballad Ashes (Part 2) is clearly meant to be an anthem. It is no Bohemian Rhapsody or Free Bird but it is easily superior to the power ballads from the 80''s by bands like REO Speedwaon, Journey, Foreigner, etc.

Overall I''m thrilled with the content and performance of the album. But I still give it only four stars because of the horrible production quality. This is not unique to The Struts. It is a problem with almost all new music. And it is not the compression into streaming files that is the problem. It is that the albums are engineered to be loud and this is achieved by compressing the dynamic range. Compressed dynamic range reduces sound quality. This album, along with their first has rock bottom dynamic range. The effect is that it sounds fairly loud at low volume settings but this is no differentiation between vocals and instruments. And the more you turn it up the worse it sounds. Probably sounds fine with ear buds or on an average car stereo. But any higher end system or headphones will expose the poor quality recording. Very sad.

There aren''t many bands still creating rock with a strong 70''s and 80''s vibe, and no other band with a vocalist like Luke Spiller, who strikes me as a wild mixing of Queen''s Freddie Mercury and Quiet Riot''s Kevin DuBrow. And the only thing that could make their music more compelling in an ass-kicking, hard-rocking way would be the occasional guitar solo—something missing in modern, over-produced "rock," such as the radio-friendly Nickelback of the later 90''s and early 2000''s.

There are no bad tracks on this album. The heavy bass lines of "Body Talks" afford a powerful start. "Primadonna Like Me" harkens back to the party and stadium anthems of the 80''s, and you feel the gravel howl of Kevin DuBrow down to your toes. "In Love with the Camera" follows and is cut from the same cloth, in case the party seemed to end too early. In contrast, "Bulletproof Baby" is a much more modern, more indie rock-influenced groove. "Who am I?" bounces back to disco-influenced Queen and Rolling Stones, with a little Rod Stewart thrown in for good measure. "People" feels more glam-prog rock, a little Extreme meets Queensryche. "Fire (Part1)" celebrates the exuberance and power of youth like old KISS, but with better song writing. "Somebody New" is a ballad that rocks, with minor new wave influences, and an actual (however brief) guitar solo. "Tatler Magazine" feels classic glam and prog Queen through and through, with Brian May-inspired guitar lines. "I Do It So Well" is pounding, funky, modern hotness. "Freak Like You" is a standout powerhouse, and with the previous "I Do It So Well" conjures a White Stripes off-ness by way of The Darkness—but with infinitely greater authority and appeal. "Ashes" follows "Fire (Part 1)" in the same vein as "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions," building emotional layers of climbing, driving melody I''ve not heard since KISS'' "God Gave Rock ''n'' Roll to You II." The second "Body Talks" with Keisha feels like it could have been more, especially with an extra verse or two and a bit more raunchy play in the duet—but it remains a solid track, nonetheless. In the end, "Young & Dangerous" is a slightly more commercial follow-up to "Everybody Wants." The first album had tracks that ran a bit cooler, but may have revealed the band''s influences and origins a bit more clearly. I hope the boys can do it again, because no one else makes rock like this any more.

I cannot say enough about The Struts! They take me to a special place where music was fun and yet relevant, where bands had something to say without making it about THEM! like T-Rex, Slade, The Stones and Queen. Luke Spiller pours his heart into every song and Adam, Jed And Gethin drive the music like the finest accomplished musicians of solid rock bands who are the seasoned best. Everytime I Listen to a rotation of CD''s I have to start and finish with The Struts. They just make me feel good. Everybody Wants was so exciting with energy and Young & Dangerous takes it to new levels in production, instruments and voice, and yet keeps that vibrant feel that only The Struts can do!

I really like this and wouldn''t call it a Sophomore Slump but I think I like " Everybody wants" better. Although I have listens to "Everybody Wants" more so I might change my mind in time. I read in the liner notes that they had written 50 new songs while on a recent tour so I have to wonder why they had two versions of one song on one CD here. I saw them on Americas Got Talent as back up band and some Victoria Secret Special. With so much success so fast I really hope they don''t lose their way and hope they don''t get too commercial and or over exposed doing cheesy stuff like that and remember that a little mystery is still a good thing in Rock and Roll. Although you can''t really blame them for doing the Victoria Secret thing I''m sure the fringe benefits were awesome lol.

If they can''t tell that''s who they are, its a shame. Hoping and praying we''ll see the rock influence in the next one.

and this CD is amazing! I''ve listened to this CD back to back more than a handful of times and did not slip any songs. In this day and age of fillers and throw away songs to fill a full release, to me that''s huge. I love their influences of Queen, Rolling Stones and even some KISS in there. They are a fresh throwback when rock was fun, carefree and about a party. Their songwriting is getting more mature, but still developing into a serious arena band. They wear their influences on their sleeves, but don''t try to be a carbon copy like some bands out today. They have their own sound and style.

These Glam/Punk Derby boys don''t take themselves too seriously (which is a good thing) and yet there is more than a smattering of Oasis'' swagger & arrogance which (if you take it to be a little tongue-in-cheek) only adds to the feeling that this lot would be great to see ''live and strutting'' (excuse the pun). ''Body Talks'' and ''Primadonna Like Me'' are very strong openers the latter especially puts me in mind of a young David Johansen. You''d probably not want this all-day-every-day but, in small doses, this raucous colourful music is great fun.
